Open for business in Aberdeenshire

A few weeks back I posted a blog about eateries in Aberdeen offering home delivery and collection during lockdown and after a massive response I’ve worked up a post focusing on Aberdeenshire to feed the appetite further.

With lockdown easing, there are more businesses opening everyday giving you plenty of scope to keep your belly full and stock up your cupboards. I’ve pulled together some highlights to give you some inspiration for meals at home, sweet treats and kitchen supplies*.

1. Bakery, gifts and sweet treats

Foodstory – Order online for delivery which coincides with this delivery map.

The hotter days have had me dreaming of nourishing salads and nourishing and Foodstory certainly fits the bill. The online shop is reaming with meals and essentials along with vegan bakery packages of sticky cinnamon buns or a selection of the likes of lemon almond cake and brownies – providing a perfect tool to perk up anyone’s day.

If you’re planning on creating a care package for your nearest and dearest, From Bakery Lane has a wide selection of granola, jams, chutneys, Scottish tablet and bakery goods (check out the Rolo caramel brownie) to choose from to create a stomach pleasing package.

Rizza’s of Huntly visit the shop.

I can hear the people of my hometown Huntly cheering with the re-opening of Rizza’s of Huntly coinciding perfectly with the hot weather we’ve been having. Be like a kid in a sweet shop (literally) while you’re spoiled for choice by it’s many flavours on offer.

If like me your hayfever is through the roof right now, they say local honey helps so an order with Udny Povender is essential. Producing its own honey, infused vinegars and cordials, its products not only well stock your cupboard but make a great gift for a loved one you’ve not seen in a while.

Burnside Brewery – order online for delivery to Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire.

Stock up on home grown berries, veg and homemade pies and lasagna when you visit Castelton Farm Shop. I’ve not paid this place a visit yet but when I do I’m definitely grabbing some waffles for take-away and some scones which you can also buy frozen to bake at home.

Formartines (Ellon) order online for drive-thru collection.

I’m long overdue a visit to the fine food hall of Formartines and I’m so glad that you can shop online and collect. Pies, ready meals, meat, dairy, veg, sweets, jams – the list is endless at Formartines creating a vibrant online grocery experience to keep the kitchen well stocked.

The Highlanders Bakehouse (Ballater)Delivery available online to select locations in west Aberdeenshire.

Give yourself a few minutes to digest the plethora of bakes that The Highlanders Bakehouse creates. From sweet cinnamon swirls to focaccia and butteries you are spoiled for choice. And there are other local goods to bag too like signature brownies from Melt, nut butters from the Hungry Squirrel and spicy sauces from Singularity Sauce Co.

Kepplestone Farm Shop (Aberdeen)visit the shop.

Avid gardeners who might be struggling to get essential supplies of compost can rest assured that Kepplestone Farm Shop is in ample supply along with plenty of fresh bread, traybakes and local berries plus mounds of fruit and veg.

Louise Farm Kitchen (Banchory)order online for click and collect.

Proudly delivering fine cuts of meat from its farm gate to your plate, Louise’s Farm Kitchen hosts drive-thru monthly pop up farm shops where you can buy minute steaks, BBQ boxes, Italian fennel sausages and much more. Keep an eye on its social channels for delivery dates and check out the recipe page for plenty of meal inspiration too.

Thorneybank Farm Shop (Rothienorman)visit the shop.

Starting off as a humble veg cart at the side of the road in the 70s to now operating as a full scale farm shop, Thorneybank Farm Shop has placed itself as a must-shop location with locals. Along with selling the potatoes grown on the family farm, fresh homebakes and a catalogue of produce from local butchers and farms can be bagged here too.

The Sitting Room Cafe (Portlethen)visit the shop for local supplies and direct message on Facebook to place take-away orders.

Flying the support local flag high with a mammoth larder stocked with local produce from food producers around the North-east is The Sitting Room Cafe. And it doesn’t end there, also on offer is a Friday night take-away menu loaded with three course options and bargain meal deal offers.


4. Take-away

Shout out to my Instagram followers for sending in their recommendations to help shape out this section. I’ve not tried some of these so let me know how you get on!

The Bay Fish & Chips (Stonehaven) – order online for delivery or click and collect.

For a fish and chips experience like no other, it really has to be The Bay Fish & Chips. Click and collect is now in place allowing you to bask in fish and chip heaven against the stunning Stonehaven seascape (sticking to social distancing of course). It’s an eatery that is much sought locally and due to demand it has extended opening hours to be open Wednesday to Sunday.

Beekies Neuk (Newmachar)Order from the take-away menu by direct messaging on Facebook or calling 01651 862740. Delivery and collection available.

Winning of Pub of the Year twice, a starring line up of pub classics can be expected from the Beekies Nuek with a mass of options to choose from ensuring any craving is conquered. The McBeekies Monster Burger sounds like a challenge I would be keen to take on!

The Boat Inn (Aboyne) – Order for collection by calling 013398 86137.

A favourite stop of mine after a day exploring Glen Tanar or Burn O’Vat, is The Boat Inn where a hearty meal is always guaranteed. Offering a changing dinner menu available for collection between 4.30pm to 8pm every Wednesday, Friday and Saturday, expect pub classics, bespoke specials and mouth-watering desserts like the pumpkin and peanut brownie which featured this week.

BrewDog (Inverurie, Ellon and Aberdeen Castlegate bars)order via the BrewDog Now website for collection.

Bring the bar to you with the BrewDog take-way service offering you the full BrewDog experience with signature burgers (always the Cluck Norris for me), wings, brunch options, bar snacks and not forgetting its epic drinks selection with beer, spirits, wine and very own beer school on offer too.

Buchanan Bistro (Banchory)order online for collection.

I was so happy to see Buchanan Bistro re-open a few weeks back. It’s always a go to for me when I’m in Banchory with its fresh food, beautiful surroundings and menu of sensational taste and variety. The online shop is loaded with quiches, soups, salads and casseroles but if you order anything make sure to get the pate and a cake slice (or two)!

Castle Fraser Restaurant (Sauchen)order by phoning 01467 642834.

Castle Fraser is one of my favourite castles in Aberdeenshire and the fact it offers a home delivery menu, pushes it further up my list! Creating a three course menu that changes every Saturday, the Castle Fraser Restaurant is definitely brightening up Saturday dinners with its wholesome plates. Keep an eye on its Facebook and Instagram for new menus posted every Sunday for the following Saturday.

Haydn’s Woodfired Pizza (Nemanchar)order via Facebook messenger for collection and delivery in Newmachar and Kingseat is also available.

Fresh woodfired pizza with bubbling cheese, toppings galore and plenty of sides to accompany, Haydn’s Woodfired Pizza is to be favoured above the chain pizza brands (who shall not be named). The Texas Forever pizza with blue cheese drizzle sounds absolutely immense!

Lettuce Eat Healthy (Peterhead)order through Facebook messenger for free delivery in Peterhead or £2 deliver outside of Peterhead within a five mile radius.

Creating fresh breakfast and lunch items, Lettuce Eat Healthy has a passion for providing customers with wholesome food as nature intended. If you’re looking to give your picnic selection a bit of a spruce up, Lettuce Eat Healthy has loaded picnic and afternoon tea packages to keep the hunger levels low. Word on the street is that this eatery will open this week – keep an eye on its Facebook page.

Meat Monsters (Ellon) order for delivery and collection via the Meat Monsters Apple and Android apps.

If you’re craving slow cooked and wood smoked beef brisket, pulled pork or spicy chicken wings, Meat Monsters is your answer. Epic food can be expected here with the use of its handcrafted rubs and sauces creating authentic smokehouse taste. And to add to the list, there’s a strong focus on the environment with all packaging 100% bio-degradable.

Mike’s Pizza Gaff (Newmachar)order online for delivery (within 20 mile radius on Newmachar).

Providing you with pre-made dough and essentials for creating that epic pizza, Mike’s Pizza Gaff takes the faff out of pizza night. Choose from a menu of pre-made pizza kits to create flagship flavours or build your own by selecting individual toppings and sauces to make your dreamy Italian pizza.

If like me you’re longing for a slap up pub grub meal, the New Inn Hotel will certainly fill that void with a take-away menu of pub classics including towering burgers, fish & chips and specials. Shout out to its changing selection of homemade cheesecakes which incur an uncontrollable craving!

The Seafood Bothy (Stonehaven) – take-away available by visiting the hut and home delivery available in and around Stonehaven by emailing direct.

I still haven’t managed to try this place out but I’m so glad to see that The Seafood Bothy is still serving up fresh fish from the pier at Stonehaven harbour during lockdown. Feast on crab tortilla wraps, lobster salads, colourful seafood platters and more at this quaint little hut.
