Top picks for food delivery in Aberdeen

With lockdown life in full swing, there’s been a surge of time spent in the kitchen experimenting and trying out new recipes. But aside from the much welcomed gift of free time, I’m really missing eating out.

There’s nothing better than venturing out to catch up with your circle over delicious food accompanied by a glass of wine (a vital ingredient in my book) and I’m missing this aspect of day to day life. But when you can’t go to the food, let the food come to you – in the form of home delivery, not a personal chef (although that would be pretty epic).

I’ve done a bit of research and here are my top local picks that you can get delivered right to your doorstep:

Note: All eateries included in this post are abiding by the COVID-19 social distancing guidelines and have measures in place to stick to government regulations.

Bio Cafe

Available on Deliveroo or direct by pay and collect on website.

This one has been on my list for a while and I’m kicking myself that I didn’t try it before lockdown. Get a rainbow of vegan delights delivered to your door with radiant buddha bowls, keto friendly cakes and smoothies to give you a healthy boost. The avocado and spiced chickpea waffle is right at the top of my list!

BrewDog

Available on Deliveroo.

One for burger lovers is BrewDog and if you order anything, make it the Cluck Norris with a cheeky side of mac and cheese. You can also get yourself some beer when you’re at it too.

FoodStory

Order direct on website.

I’m sorely missing slow mornings sipping on oat milk lattes and picking away at a sticky cinnamon bun at FoodStory but fortunately with its new home delivery in place I can retrieve a bit of normality. Order fresh lunch and dinner options along with essential supplies from its Eco Shop for your stash of fruit, vegetables, bread, spices and ground coffee (the list goes on).

Koi Thai

Order direct on website.

I crave a Thai food at the best of times and when the craving hits, my mind always goes to Koi Thai. Offering delivery on its a la carte menu (along with set and kids menus) with a 10% discount, make sure to order the Pad Thai and Thung Thong (crispy chicken and prawn dumplings).

Melt

Available on Deliveroo and Just Eat.

If you’re after a good plate of comfort food to eradicate an isolation hangover, Melt is your answer. The pulled pork toastie is epic along with the poutine and don’t forget to order the sticky toffee brownie which comes with the most epic caramel sauce *drools*

Muchacho

Available on Deliveroo or direct by calling 01224 639574.

I was craving mexican a few weekends ago and this Little Miss Piggy burrito with pork carnitas and loaded with herby rice, black beans and the zingy Miss Elenita pico de calo salsa sorted me right out. Between delivering mexican feasts to the streets of the city and shire through its Quaran-Taco Party, Muchacho is taking orders direct.

Roots

Order direct on website.

This place is getting my order this week and I can’t wait to devour the Roots Bloody Roots miso roasted root vegetable burger! All orders come with your choice of loaded, salted or rosemary and truffle fries (always loaded for me).

Rustico Restaurant

Available on Deliveroo.

I haven’t been to Rustico Restaurant in donkeys but one thing for sure is that a meal from here is always beautiful. Mammoth portions of rustic Italian food and for a steal of a price too, here is perfect for Italian fans.

Shakes ‘n’ Cakes

Order direct via the Shakes ‘n’ Cakes app (available on Apple and Android).

The shops are rammed with post Easter bargains, but if chocolate eggs and bunnies aren’t doing it for you – Shakes ‘n’ Cakes will fill that void with mounds of ice cream, chocolate bar milkshakes and tower pancakes. Order through the Shakes ‘n’ Cakes app for free delivery and NHS and emergency workers get 30% off their order too.

Smoke & Soul

Available on Deliveroo (Wednesday to Saturday, 4pm to 8pm).

For wood-fired food the only option is Smoke & Soul. Serving up smokey meat cooked to perfection along with loaded mac and cheese that has you hooked from the first bite, you can be certain that the soul will be fed with an order from here.

The Pigs Wings

Order direct by calling 01224 633777.

After trying out its refreshed menu back in March, all I can say is that I’m stoaked that The Pigs Wings are still delivering during lockdown. Get your hands on the Steak House Special, and you my friend will be in heaven! Perfect flank steak (medium rare obvs) on top of fries and served with underneath THE best onion rings lathered in dreamy peppercorn sauce.

Yatai

Order direct by calling 01224 592355 (pick up and delivery available).

The announcement of Yatai offering pick up and delivery made my day yesterday and I’m sure others were joyfully jumping with me too. It may be a reduced menu on offer but believe me that you won’t be left hungry with so much variety to choose from. The pork belly steam buns and the salmon maki with pickled cucumber is a must!

If you know of a local eatery offering home delivery and you think they should be included, drop me an email at thefoodhoover@outlook.com and I’ll add to this post.

Keep safe and happy ordering folks!
