So a lot happened in the short month of February this year. Justin Timberlake delivered his much anticipated half-time show at the Superbowl, athletes dawned their best (and unforgiving) Lycra at the Pyeong Chang Winter Olympics and Trump most likely did something stupid.
Here in Aberdeen, while the Beast from the East was blowing a hoolie*, one event stood out from the crowd and that was Aberdeen’s very own Restaurant Week.
*blowing a hoolie
A phrase used to describe a gust of wind, gale, hurricane conditions etc.
Aberdeen Inspired brought foodies from the city and shire back into the city centre to share their one true love for food right in time for valentines day. With over 30 of Aberdeen’s best loved eateries joining the week, attendees were taken on a culinary journey and received a showcase of the sheer variety Aberdeen homed in it’s city centre.
I was all over this week, I love a bargain and the set menus put together by each restaurant weren’t your standard soup and sandwich lunch or burger and fries dinner – these menus were unique and offered true value to diners wishing to indulge in foodie heaven.
When I heard that Restaurant week was making a return on Monday September 3 to Sunday September 9 and bringing us 40 (yes 40) restaurants eager to please – I was over the moon. Lunch for £10 and dinner for £20, who can argue with that!?
Above that my excitement skyrocketed when I got asked to join forces with local bloggers to form an official blogging team to review some of the restaurants taking part this time round. To say I was beside myself was an understatement – remember that scene in Matilda (big fan) when the mum wins bingo and rocks up in her new swanky car? Well that was me, but minus the peroxide frizz (clip here for those who are completely lost).
Anyway, speaking of bingo – making its debut this year is Bistro Bingo. At your first restaurant you will get a card (similar to a loyalty card) and for every restaurant you dine at during the week you’ll receive a stamp. Once you complete a line you will be in with the chance to win a seat at an exclusive chef’s table dinner to take the week to a close. Keep an eye on the Aberdeen Inspired Facebook and Instagram for more news on that one.
While we wait for the menus to go live on Tuesday August 21, take a look at this year’s restaurants to get a flavour for what’s to come and start to plot your ultimate food tour.
Once you know where you want to go, there’s only one thing to do, book. The principal still stays the same, simply pick your restaurant, phone up to book and quote “Aberdeen Restaurant Week” to take advantage of the unique menu.
So that’s all I have for you guys just now but keep your eyes peeled over the coming weeks for reviews from the Restaurant Week blogging tribe on the dedicated blog page and get a preview of what treasures the week holds.
Remember to take plenty of food pics and post your experiences on social using hashtags tags #comedinewithus and #ARW2018. Lets swamp social with content and showcase Aberdeen as the food destination of the North-east!
Now excuse me while I go scout out my eating jeans …
